The Ecclesbourne Valley has had the joys of a railway for around 150 years, but it was not until 2005 that this name was applied.

Local quarries made great use of it until 1989. The limestone deposits were used in various ways, including cement manufacture, sugar making and steel flux.

The subsequent changes in private ownership, together with visits to its amazing past, are extensively illustrated herein.

Reviews:

'This will appeal particularly to those interested in the railways of Derbyshire and the wider preservation movement.'
(The Railway Observer, February 2018, Vol.88, No.1068)

'This is a delightful line to both view and travel on and the book captures well this atmosphere. Definitely one to purchase!'
(The Journal of The Stephenson Locomotive Society, Jan/Feb 2018 - No.909, Vol.94)

'The MP encyclopaedic coverage of the UK network now extends to cover one of the heritage movement's biggest, though often unheralded achievements, in the restoration of a complete standard gauge branch line plus the industrial spur at the northern end.... Essential historical guide.'
(Heritage Railway, Issue 235, Nov-Dec 2017)

'The Duffield-Wirksworth branch is very much still with us thanks to the efforts of the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, and this book provides a worthy companion for anyone travelling on the line.'
