Country Railway Routes
Ambergate to Mansfield
including the Midland Railway - Butterley
by Vic Mitchell & Keith Smith
Much of the route is still open but there are many views that need explanation to be enjoyed fully. They are enhanced by the river Erewash being nearby. The Midland Railway is full of interest, an outstanding pleasure.
'These superb books just keep on coming! Four books covering parts of the East Midlands and South Yorkshire which together provide a wealth of timetables, route maps, tickets and historical notes; the books never cease to amaze in the amount of research which has gone into them.'
(R.Rollings, NRM Review - The Journal of the Friends of the National Railway Museum, No.174, Winter 2020-21)
[review covering: Chesterfield to Rotherham, Chesterfield to Lincoln, Mansfield to Doncaster & Ambergate to Mansfield]
'All are produced to the usual, excellent standard and follow the publisher's usual style of coloured cover with mono pages. I doubt there is a Journal reader who has not already seen and bought at least one title from this extensive encyclopaedic seral.'
(John New – SLS Journal, Sept/Oct 2020, no. 925, vol. 96)
[review covering: Nottingham towards Kirkby-in-Ashfield, New Mills to Sheffield, Ambergate to Mansfield, Derby-Ilkeston-Nottingham & Manchester to Bacup]
'The photographs cover the steam and diesel eras with a mixture of passenger and freight traffic. As usual with the later books it connects with other books in the series, to which reference is made.'
