Country Railway Routes
Wymondham to Wells
featuring the Mid-Norfolk Railway
by Richard Adderson & Graham Kenworthy
This historic line was laid on fairly level ground in beautiful countryside, which is illustrated in many of the pictures. A wide variety of locomotives on both goods and passenger traffic adds to the interest.
Following the gradual abandonment of the line by British Rail, a number of tourist and heritage railways have become established along the route, and these later developments are fully covered in this book.
'It is a common misconception that Norfolk is boringly flat and devoid of industry, true it is neither alpine nor a wasteland of smoke belching heavy industry, but it is definitely undulating and was possessed of many fine industrial buildings. The photographs in the Wymondham to Wells book highlight this diversity. They also range from the steam era through into modern preservation.'
(The Journal of The Stephenson Locomotive Society, May/June 2020, No.923, Vol.96)
'It shows a railway prospering, then falling into decline, then, in the case of the Mid-Norfolk Railway, coming back to life in preservation. A splendid tale told, especially seeing the restoration of so many fine buildings... All photographs have reproduced well.'
(British Railway Modelling, April 2020)
'...a remarkable 'now and then' pot pourri picture album.'
