The Saxon State Railways constructed a network of 75cm lines between 1881 and 1923, which eventually totalled 556km. Of this large railway network, 100km are still in existence, now privatised and catering mainly for the tourist industry rather than their original purposes. All the surviving operations and many of the closed lines are featured in the photographic coverage of these fascinating systems. Saxony boasted a large 60cm forestry system, whilst it was also at the forefront of the development of miniature lines in the parks of its major cities. The 38cm lines at Dresden and Leipzig have led a chequered existence, but are now well established and still using their original locomotives.
