Buxton to Stockport
inluding Chinley and Peak Forest
by Paul Shannon
The Peak District in beautiful Derbyshire was a source of much rail revenue from tourism.
Another important income came from underground, in the form of limestone.
The variety of trains used for these traffics are extensively illustrated, not to mention the suburban activity.
'Author/photographer Paul Shannon applied his expert local knowledge to a review of a couple of routes radiating from south Manchester, which interlocks well with recent Middleton Press volumes on this area. The captions make it particularly good... Yet another good Middleton read.'

[Review on Ambergate to Buxton and Buxton to Stockport:]
'As always, if you have even a passing interest in the locations covered, these books are a value for money purchase for your bookshelf.'
(SLS Journal, September/October 2019, No.919, Volume 95)
[Review covering both Uttoxeter to Buxton and Buxton to Stockport:]
'The 96 pages contain 120 black and white photographs taken at different times in the line's history together with copies of Railway Clearing House maps, timetables, facsimiles of tickets and a route elevation plan. The photogaphs, which come from widely sourced collections, are clearly captioned and detailed.'
(National Railway Museum Review, No.170, Winter 2019/2020)
'Once again an enjoyable read and an informative one if you are not familiar with the lines in question.'
